Music Taste Analyzer

Music Soulmate

Two artist lists, one score. Fill your side, send the invite link to a friend, and the music soulmate engine maps shared genres, complementary strengths and your overlap.

You

Your friend

Both sides need at least 3 artists before we can compare.

The invite link contains only the artist names your friend chose — no accounts, no emails, no Spotify tokens.

How the music soulmate comparison works

Enter three to ten artists on your side, then either hand the device to a friend or copy the invite link — it encodes only your artist IDs, nothing else. When both sides are in, the music soulmate engine computes one compatibility score from three transparent parts: genre similarity (how closely your two genre distributions point the same way), mood similarity (how near your energy, warmth, melancholy and intensity land) and artist overlap (how many names you share outright).

The weights are sixty-five, twenty-five and ten — genre first, because it predicts the shared playlist; mood second, because it predicts the shared evening; artists last, because discovering new music together is the whole fun of a music soulmate anyway.

Shared ground

The result lists the genre families you both lean on — the spine of your joint playlist. A music soulmate report always shows these with real percentages, never vague vibes.

Complementary strengths

Where you differ, the report pairs your strongest family with theirs: your metal plus their jazz is not a failure, it is a music soulmate trade agreement.

The tier label

Scores land in five tiers from Plot-Twist Pairing to Twin-Flame Playlist. Every music soulmate tier is affectionate — even the plot twists, especially the plot twists.

The invite link: privacy first

The music soulmate flow never asks for accounts, emails or streaming access. Your invite link contains a compact encoding of your chosen artist IDs — names you already post publicly — and expires never but reveals nothing else. Your friend's side never leaves their browser either; the comparison runs locally on whoever's device opens the link.

This design keeps the music soulmate test friction-free and gossip-safe: forward the link in any chat app without shipping personal data along with it.

What the link contains

Artist slugs and the page version — that is all. No identifiers, no timestamps, no tracking pixels. The music soulmate invite is as private as a shared playlist link, minus the platform.

Reading your score honestly

A high music soulmate score means your libraries rhyme — great for road trips and queue peace treaties. A lower score means contrast: more discoveries, more auxiliary-cable diplomacy. Neither outcome is a verdict on the friendship; the music soulmate scale measures playlists, not people.

Symmetry is guaranteed: swap the two sides and the number holds, because genre cosine similarity has no ego. The music soulmate engine treats both libraries with exactly equal respect, which is more than most group chats can say.

From score to shared playlist

The share card shows both profiles' top artists around one big number — the music soulmate post that starts arguments in the best way. Whoever opens the replay link sees the identical result recomputed locally, with a try-yours call to action.

The practical next step is the fun part: build the joint playlist from your shared families, then alternate one artist each from your complementary lists. That is the whole music soulmate method for turning a score into a soundtrack.

Music soulmate math, in plain numbers

The full formula is public: compatibility equals sixty-five percent genre similarity, twenty-five percent mood similarity and ten percent artist overlap, each computed from the two deterministic profiles. Genre similarity compares your family distributions as vectors — pointing the same way scores high, orthogonal libraries score middle, opposite libraries keep the spice. Mood similarity measures the distance between your four mood axes. Artist overlap is a straightforward Jaccard share of your two name lists.

Why these weights? Because a music soulmate is first someone you can build one playlist with — that is genre. Second, someone whose evenings sound like yours — that is mood. Shared artists matter least because trading favorites is the best part; a ten-percent weight keeps the discovery lane wide open.

Every component is symmetric and explainable: swap the two sides and nothing changes, and the result card shows all three parts with their own numbers. A music soulmate score you cannot audit would be astrology — this one is arithmetic.

What a middle score means

Fifties and sixties are the sweet spot for discovery: enough shared ground to fill a playlist, enough contrast to fill each other’s gaps. The music soulmate engine calls these bridges, and they age the best.

Music soulmate FAQ

Does the music soulmate test need both people online?

No. The invite link carries your side; your friend opens it whenever and completes theirs. The comparison runs on their device.

Is a low music soulmate score bad?

Not at all — it means contrast, which means discoveries. The tiers are affectionate at every level, on purpose.

What exactly does the invite link contain?

Only your chosen artist IDs in compact form. No names, emails, accounts or tracking — privacy is the design, not a setting.

Can I compare with someone far away?

Yes — send the link across any chat app. The music soulmate comparison recomputes wherever it is opened.

Why is the score symmetric?

Genre similarity uses cosine similarity, which is directionally equal both ways. The music soulmate engine literally cannot favor one side.

Can we both add manual genres?

Yes — each side can confirm up to three families for artists outside the index, and they feed the same formula.

What is a good music soulmate score?

Whatever starts the best conversation. High scores mean shared playlists; middle scores mean trading posts; the music soulmate scale has no losers — only different mixtapes.

How many artists does each music soulmate side need?

Three minimum, ten maximum per side. Five each is the sweet spot — enough for a stable music soulmate profile, short enough to finish during one coffee.

Method & data, in plain words

Music Taste Analyzer is honest about what it measures. Everything below is computed from the artists you select — never from private listening data — and identical inputs always produce identical results.

1

Curated artist index

520 artists across 15 genre families, tagged and reviewed by hand. If an artist is missing, you confirm genres yourself — we never invent tags.

2

Deterministic profiles

Genre weights split evenly across each artist's tags, moods blended from 15 genre families, diversity measured with Shannon entropy on a 0-100 scale. No randomness, no drift.

3

Entertainment-only scores

Ratings, verdicts, chaos and compatibility numbers are playful transformations of those profiles — they never judge you as a person.

4

Private by design

No login, no Spotify connection, no uploads. Share links encode only the artist IDs you picked — nothing else leaves your browser.
